We had such a magical babymoon in Cornwall; one thing to cross off my pre-baby bucket list. It was a much needed break from work and chores around the house. We stayed at a wonderful airbnb cottage called Flittermouse Cottage near Camelford, and you can see more about that below.

St Ives

On our first day we headed down the coast to St Ives. We used the park and ride and the train into the town. We wandered around the shops, had a cream tea (no 1) at a tea rooms and then wandered a bit more. One of my old school friends runs a cafe in the town so we popped into there for lunch and I had a very yummy scrambled eggs on toast with salmon – they serve breakfast all day which is a win in my books. I do regret not trying their cream teas as it looked so good! After lunch we headed to the beach and went for a paddle. With slightly swollen feet, thanks pregnancy, the sea was just what I needed.

Tintagel

The next day the sun was still out and our airbnb host recommended a trip to St Nectans Glen waterfall near Tintagel. It was a bit of a trek up but it was magical! We had a cream tea in the cafe (no 2) before walking to the waterfall. It’s hidden away over stepping stones through the water and it’s truly breathtaking. We stayed there for ages just taking it all in.

Afterwards we headed to Tintagel Castle. I have a bone to pick with the ticket guy here. He saw I’m pregnant and said that it was a steep walk down but that there’s a land rover service to bring us back up so I’d be fine. What he neglected to mention was the really big climb up to the castle! I was really feeling it in my calves and lower back and struggled, but I made it. And I even made it back up without the car ride. I don’t know if it’s really worth the entrance fee unless you’re interested in the history – there are much better views and coves for free in Cornwall.

A rainy day in Plymouth

We woke up on Friday to rain so we decided to go to Plymouth Aquarium to keep dry. It was quite tranquil watching the rays, fish and shark swim around, but apart from that it wasn’t the best aquarium I’ve been to. I read somewhere it’s one of the best in the UK but it wasn’t for me. There were some entertaining jellyfish that looked like they were dancing in skirts though.

As the skies cleared we went to a National Trust property called Saltram. The volunteers were so helpful here explaining about the house, especially the lady in the kitchen who gave us a full tour of it and told us so many stories. I was getting hungry by this point so we headed to the tea room just in time for closing and had a cream tea (no 3). It was table service and decorated so beautifully. It felt like a proper afternoon tea with vintage music playing and a piano in the corner. They served loose leaf tea too which was a bonus.

A National Trust day

Saturday was rainy too but that didn’t stop us exploring. We headed to Lanhydrock which is near Bodmin. It was so busy full of coach loads of tourists. The house is humungous with around 50 rooms to view. There weren’t many volunteers to ask questions to but I guess that’s because it’s so large. It looked like there were some good walks around the estate but it was torrential rain by this point. We did stop off for a jacket potato at their cafe – I’d finally had enough of cream teas.

The next National Trust property we went to was Trerice near Newquay. We arrived just in time for a talk in the garden about the small house. It was interesting to hear the history and then able to look around the property. I find that if there is a talk or volunteers I learn so much more about the places rather than from reading something. And then, obviously, I had a cream tea in their cafe.

As we were on the North coast we drove up to Port Quinn where there were a few National Trust car parks to stop in, which is where the photo below was taken. There’s a long coastal path which you can walk, but by this point my body was nearly giving up on me and I couldn’t face it. It’s on the list for our next visit!

Our airbnb stay

This was our first airbnb experience and I couldn’t wait to arrive at Flittermouse Cottage. Our host greeted us and showed us around the property. It was beyond all my expectations and the photos didn’t do it justice! It is a converted barn which has the original beams in it. The lounge/kitchen is upstairs with a little balcony and it was fully equipped and comfortable. The bathroom and bedroom downstairs were beautifully decorated too. I’ve included some images below and there’s a little tour at the end of my 24 week pregnancy update video if you want to see more.

24 week bump picture Cornwall

I can’t believe I’m sitting here writing this at nearly 25 weeks pregnant. The weeks seem to be flying by and it’s really quite scary how little I’ve done to get ready.

23 weeks pregnant

Oh my goodness this baby is moving so much now. I’m feeling it lots more at night and Simon can feel it too, especially if he puts his head on my tummy and baby boots him out the way. It’s a lovely feeling.

Symptoms this week have been okay apart from, TMI alert, constipation. I know it’s a typical pregnancy symptom so I should have expected it. I’ve found that downing a pint of water and getting into a bath for 15 minutes really helps. I may be wasting a bit more water but I get to pamper myself a bit more often.

I bought quite a bit of maternity wear recently and you can find out what I bought in my ASOS and New Look maternity haul video.

24 weeks pregnant

We went on our babymoon! We headed to Cornwall for a few day and had such a lovely time. I did struggle with the amount of walking we did and was knackered at the end of each day. I found that walking around too much was hurting my lower back on my right, which is where I’ve had a few niggly pains previously.

I’m also getting pain in that area at night when I move from my right side to my left side. It only happens when I roll over and only when I roll over to my left. It’s bizarre!

I’ve felt a little faint this week too. I nearly fainted at work which was quite embarrassing. Luckily two ladies were nearby who helped me back to my desk and plied me with water. I’m making sure to take lots of snacks with me to work, so I ate a curlywurly straight away to make sure my blood sugar levels were up. One of my colleagues suggested eating a bigger breakfast. So instead of just my 2 weetabix (all the fibre!!) I’m going to try and have some toast as well. When I get in to work I have some natural yoghurt with granola, and I’ve started adding fresh strawberries to it as well.

I’ve also filmed updates which you can find in my pregnancy update playlist on YouTube.

This week

Baby is now the size of a – Half baguette.

My favourite moment was – Relaxing on holiday in Cornwall.

My worst moment was – Having to go back to work and then feeling faint there.

I’ve been feeling – Happy but exhausted!

I’ve been buying for baby – Nada, I’ve been good this week.

I’m missing – Nothing really.

I’m craving – Profiteroles. So much so I just bought a 24 pack from Tesco as they were on offer.

I’m looking forward to – The Mothercare Expectant Parent Event on Friday, where I can make up for not buying anything this week.

Breakfast

The first thing I do every day is have breakfast. I am grumpy as hell if I skip it or have it late. I usually go for a slightly healthier cereal for breakfast but not on the weekend. Cocopops in bed, what could be better? (Please don’t say avocado on toast, that’s not happening in this house).

We then got ready for a morning in Winchester. I had some clothes to return to New Look before heading in to Primark for some comfy pyjamas. They just have the comfiest PJs, why buy them from anywhere else?! I tried on so many things and it was kinda scary when I looked down and couldn’t see my toes.

primark shopping

I love going to Winchester on a Saturday as they have a market down the high street. Near the bottom we found this wild meat stall which provided samples and I devoured quite a few! I don’t think they minded because we bought some venison sausages, garlic salami and a traditional dry salami. We tried elk, beaver and roe deer but they had so much choice.

Wild meat stall

Strawberries

We then walked past the fruit and vegetable stalls and I was pulled in by the scent of the strawberries. I couldn’t resist buying a punnet to snack on as we walked around.

Now onto my favourite reason for going into Winchester on a Saturday – The Ciabatta Grill, which I’ve talked about before on the blog. Simon actually went for the same as me this time, a chicken, chorizo and mozzarella ciabatta. It’s so yummy! We went to the cathedral grounds and found a step to sit on while we munched.

Before coming home we had a quick wander around the shops. I’ve quite fallen for this polka dot rucksack changing bag in Cath Kidston. I’ve not seen many backpack versions so it’s definitely something to consider.

When we got home we did a really not very exciting trip to Sainsburys followed by stuffing my face with chocolate eclairs. I had no fancy plans for the evening excepting getting into my new Primark pyjamas, eating a curry, watching telly and crocheting my bunting together with white yarn. I much prefer evenings in!

That sums up my Saturday. How was your weekend?

22 weeks pregnant bump shot

Wowzers this pregnancy seems to be flying by now!

21 weeks pregnant

This week I started my bump yoga class. The class started with a bit of an ice breaker and then we went through a guided relaxation before doing some yoga. Afterwards we had a discussion about breathing in labour before some relaxation to finish off. It felt amazing to be doing some exercise and just to be around other pregnant ladies. I don’t have any pregnant friends so this is all new to me; it was nice to not feel alone.

We went pram shopping one evening and I am still utterly pramboozled. I have narrowed down my choice to three and I really can’t decide. One is beautiful, the other is well regarded and the third is practical and I’ve heard great things about it. It’s such a hard decision to make. After narrowing down my options with a spreadsheet, I know have a table with these three prams and all the things I consider important like manoeuvrability and ease of folding. I’ve then rated each first, second or third and the pram with the lowest total wins – but they all came out with only one or two points between them! So that didn’t work. Maybe eeny meeny miny moe is the way to go.

22 weeks pregnant

The baby has really upped its game with kicking this week. It’s been so wonderful being able to feel it move. Hubby and I went over to my parents for a bbq over the weekend and he felt it kick for the first time. It was only a little kick but he felt it. Then a few nights later I had a super relaxing bubble bath with a good book and felt baby move again. I called him in and he put his hand on my belly and baby did the biggest kick ever. It was a magical moment.

I feel incredibly lucky to not have that many symptoms again this week. My headaches have pretty much gone and the pain in my tailbone area has calmed down. I’m an emotional wreck but that’s about it this week.

Can time just stop please?! Now that I’ve passed the half way point it definitely feels like time is speeding up and baby will be here in a minute. We haven’t bought any of the big things and I’m starting to panic a bit. Better get making some decisions soon!

This week

Baby is now the size of a – Papaya.

My favourite moment was – Seeing hubby’s face when he felt the baby kick.

My worst moment was – Bursting into tears in the shopping centre. One of the shops had an extremely rude manager who peed me off.

I’ve been feeling – Emotional. I’ve had a few down days for no reason, but I’ve also had plenty of things to be really happy about too.

I’ve been buying for baby – I bought a play mat and some clothes. I’ve been quite bad with the spending the last two weeks.

I’m missing – Being able to fit into some of my clothes. And why are my maternity tops always in the wash?! I need to do more laundry.

I’m craving – I haven’t really had any cravings this week. Although I am still partial to a baguette with proper butter.

I’m looking forward to – Our holiday in Cornwall.

I have fallen back in love with my bullet journal now I’m feeling better. I’m still switching between daily and weekly setups but that’s the beauty of a bullet journal, you can really do whatever the hell you want with it.

I decided to film June’s setup, so let me know what you think.

Weeklies

I’ve switched back to the weekly setup as I find that when I’m at work I don’t have as many (if any) daily tasks so I would just skip those days. There are also so many tasks that I don’t need to do that day but need to get done during the week. It made sense to just have one list of tasks that I can work through during the week and then I could mark any tasks that need doing on a certain day.

The reason there’s only 6 meal options is because it means we can go out, get takeaway or go to my parents one night a week. It also doesn’t stipulate which day is for each meal, as that never worked out with my pregnancy cravings! Some evenings I just end up with cereal anyway.

I’m doing a weekly habit tracker so that I can adjust what habits are important to me that week. This week I really want to focus on relaxing, getting some exercise and having a bit of me time.

Do you prefer weeklies or dailies? How do you setup your monthly view?

Feeling lonely - stock image

Feeling lonely isn’t something that I would usually write about on a blog. It’s quite a negative subject, right? But it’s something that’s been bothering me a bit during pregnancy so far.

None of my close friends are pregnant or have children so I don’t have many people I can talk to about it all. It’s been quite isolating, especially during the first trimester when I didn’t want to tell any family or friends yet, but I could have done with someone in a similar position to talk to. I don’t go out as much anymore in the evenings because I am so exhausted and I feel a bit cut off from the world. I have my work colleagues who all have children but everyone is too busy to talk.

I started a bump yoga class this week and it was amazing. It was great to be surrounded by other pregnant women. The class started with a bit of an ice breaker and then we went through a guided relaxation before starting some yoga moves. The teacher made sure we were doing easier moves if we needed to and to take a break if things became uncomfortable. After the yoga we had a discussion about breathing in labour before some relaxation to finish off.

I can’t wait to start my NCT antenatal course next month where I will hopefully meet a few local mums-to-be to talk to. I’ve heard so many good things about the course online so it should be really good. My local hospital only offers one antenatal session and that didn’t really feel like enough. As a first time mum I want all the information, help and support I can get.

Favourite pregnancy bloggers/vloggers

Typical blogger I’ve searched to see who else is in my shoes at the moment. It’s been wonderful to see how other ladies pregnancies are going and feel a little less like I’m all on my own.

Cider with Rosie – I loved her blog before she became a mum-to-be so it’s been lovely to follow Rosie’s journey too.

This Mama Life – Sarah I found on YouTube while searching for weekly updates and she’s around the same weeks I am so it’s wonderful to see her updates.

Jessica Avey – Another YouTuber who has been keeping us up-to-date with her weekly updates. She’s also done videos on fitness and eating during pregnancy.

Emily Norris – I found Emily’s videos via Channel Mum and I love watching her vlogs as well as the pregnancy updates.

The Lindquists – Elle had her baby last month but I adore watching their family vlogs! I’ve been addicted for a few months and they’re just such a lovely family. I’m also watching all her pregnancy updates when I reach that week.

Do you have any favourite mummy or pregnancy bloggers or youtubers?

IKEA Malm dressing table makeup and desk

With a baby on the way I am losing my dressing table room. Nooooo!!

I don’t mind really, it will make a lovely small nursery (until hubby loses his office). I’ve moved my dressing table and Alex drawers into his study and have made myself a bit of desk space too.

I wanted the dressing table to be clean and not have too much on top as it gets so dusty. It’s the IKEA Malm dressing table and IKEA Alex drawers, obvs, I’m a blogger. Here’s a picture of how it was before and I really wanted to declutter. It’s a mess and not a very calming area to do my makeup and hair in the morning.

IKEA Malm dressing table

I have a love/hate relationship with the Malm dresser. Why does the drawer not come out very far?! Do you not need to have access to the back of it? There is a hack to change it if you google it but I don’t want to break anything.

The idea of moving the furniture into the office is so that I can use the dressing table as a desk on occasions. Simon spends a lot of hours in his office in the evening if he’s got work to do and sometimes I want to join him. So I’ve made a little desk area on my dresser and room for hair and makeup. I’ve also popped by sewing machine on it in hope that I’ll have more time to use it.

I’ve had a bit of a clear out of my Alex drawers. Who needs a whole drawer of moisturiser?! I don’t even use it that much. I have a tub of body butter by the bed and the Palmers cocoa stretch mark cream in the bathroom; I don’t need anything else. My Alex had turned into a place where makeup and beauty products go to die.

Stacked jewellery box

All it needs now is a better makeup brush pot and possibly a new mirror. And definitely some new eyelash curlers! How dirty are they?! Oops!
