For my bullet journal 2017 setup I am staying in the same notebook. This means there are a lot of things I don’t need to redo this year, like the index and key. I also haven’t done a calendar this year – I forgot. But the reason I forgot is because I don’t remember ever looking at it last year. When doing a monthly spread I’d use my phone calendar as a guide. So I saved myself some time by forgetting to do it.

Bullet Journal 2017

Goals spread

Firstly I started off with a happy new year page. I’m quite tempted to colour it in at some point. Then on the next page I have my 2017 goals. I have 5 goals and then I’ve broken them down into 3-5 actionable steps. I find it much easier to complete goals if they are broken down into steps rather than be faced with something quite overwhelming.

As one of my goals is to do a 10km race in under an hour I had to have the couch 2 5km and 5-10km spreads in here. I used the apps by ZenLabs previously and I’m going to use them again this time.

Blogging spreads

Bullet Journal 2017 editorial calendar

Bullet Journal 2017 Blog tracker

I have my yearly statistics spread here which covers my blog, YouTube channel and social media following. At the end of each month I’ll record down the results and then over the year I can see how it’s going. The next blogging spread is my editorial calendar for blog posts and YouTube videos. I do this over two months just so I can see what I’ve got. I don’t plan the whole two months in one go, I fill it in as the month goes on. With the colour coded key sorting out categories it helps me spread out my content more.

Monthly spread

For January’s monthly spread I am all about simplicity. I have included my monthly goals, which are based off my 2017 goals and will help me in my progress. Read a book is there so that I make sure I’m making time for me.

Bullet Journal 2017 monthly spread for january

Bullet Journal 2017 future log

Next up is a future log for the next 3 months. Again it’s really minimalist and gives me the space I need for all those dates.

My next monthly spread is a sleep and bottle tracker. I’m combination feeding E but it’s useful to record when she has her bottles. I’m trying to see if there’s a pattern so I can get into a bit of a routine, especially with sleep. So having a tracker is really useful for seeing if a pattern emerges.

Weekly spread

Bullet Journal 2017 weekly spread

My weekly spread is quite similar to in my December setup however I’ve added dinner and steps boxes. As I need to try and lose some of this baby weight I’m going to attempt to meal plan more and go on more walks. I have a Garmin Forerunner 15 to track my steps but I’m not sure how it will work pushing a pram around. I’ve kept the large space on the right but have renamed it jotter rather than tasks. This space is for tasks, notes and whatever I want to put in it.

How’s your 2017 bullet journal looking? I’d love to see your January spreads.

We decided for Eleanor’s first Christmas we’d do a photoshoot wearing some of her lovely Christmas clothes. I knew it wouldn’t be easy but I didn’t know how ridiculously hard it would be.

The lights in the background were far more interesting than looking at the camera, even with Daddy talking to her and waving a light up rattle around. When we tried to get a photo of her feet she just kept kicking about. I tried feeding her but then when she finished she just cried as soon as I put her down. She is not the most cooperative model around.

Out of the 300-odd photos we took, here are a few of my favourites.

I vlogged the day we did the photoshoot so you can see how we got on. It was an interesting experience and a lot of fun when she wasn’t crying. I want to keep the fairy lights out all year round as she loved them so much!

Eleanor turned 3 months old recently and she’s utterly amazing.

Feeding

Eleanor is still being combination fed at the moment. My aim was to breastfeed until 6 weeks, then 8 weeks and then 12 weeks. I’m still going and I don’t know when I’ll stop. I’ve come further than I thought I’d be able to and I’m not ready to stop. Eleanor is topped up with 3-5 bottles a day of around 2-3oz each. Because she’s combo feeding I do find she feeds more often.

Her weight gain has been slow but is steadily going up and the health visitor is happy with it.

Sleep

I feel quite blessed with Eleanor’s sleeping habits. She won’t go to bed before 10pm and sometimes we’ll be up til midnight trying to get her to bed. But she usually goes for about 6 hours. Sometimes it’s 4 hours and occasionally we get 8 hours so it’s always different at the moment.

I would love to get our evenings back and get her down to bed by 7-8pm but I’m sure that will happen in time. The problem with the late night is that she likes to nap until 11am or even midday so when we go out in the morning she doesn’t get enough sleep. And those morning naps won’t happen in her bed either, she has to be on me otherwise she’ll just cry and stay awake. All naps are on one of us during the day which is a shame as it means I get very little done. If she’s asleep and I try to put her down she knows instantly and cries.

Development

It’s been so much fun seeing E change over the last few weeks. She’s been batting her toys on her play gym and shaking her rattle when we give it to her to hold.

She’s in need of dribble bibs now. She’s forever chewing on her hands or blowing bubbles. She’s such a little dribbler and I don’t know if that’s just normal or possibly there’s some teeth movement going on in there.
I love her big smile. Usually in the morning when I get her out of bed she gives me a huge smile when she sees me. It melts my heart. She is making so many noises now too. It feels like we can have a bit of a conversation now, one that makes no sense but hey, she’s only 3 months old.

E will happily kick and hit her toys in her play gym now which is great to see. It also means I can put her down for 15 minutes or so and she’ll happily entertain herself so I can drink a cup of tea.

I think rolling won’t be too far off. The last couple of days she’s been trying to get onto her side to look at something. I’m excited for rolling but also scared as it means I’ll have to watch her all the time.

Eleanor swimming at 3 months

She absolutely loves floating. We’ve been going to swimming lessons for a few weeks now and she loves it. It’s hard to time feeds around it as they aren’t supposed to eat before swimming so sometimes she’ll cry because she’s hungry. But when she floats or does an underwater swim she calms down. She adores bath time too so she’s a proper little water baby.

My 3 months postpartum update

If I can’t be honest here where can I be? My GP said I have post natal depression. I have really good days and then sometimes I have bad days where I wonder if I can cope looking after her. Luckily I have more good days than bad and I have a very supportive husband and family. The bad days are usually the ones where Eleanor won’t feed properly and is just crying all the time. The way I’m dealing with it is to meet up with mummy friends often and get out the house. My health visitor has referred me to a group to chat to about it all as well. My HV has been a star and she comes out every couple of weeks to have a catch up with me.

Apart from that I’m doing really well. With the new year starting soon I’m going to try and tackle the pregnancy weight gain. I’ve written about my plans to shift the baby weight and my goal is to run the New Forest 10km in September.

We all have Christmas traditions that we do every year and this year we want to create some new ones to do now we’re a family of three. I know Eleanor is far too young to notice but I love Christmas so it’s all part of the fun.

Personalised Christmas Stocking

Singing Christmas songs

One tradition that I’ll be carrying on since I was little is to watch Disney Sing Along Christmas 1988. It was on vhs and I’ve been watching it on YouTube now. Every few days I sit down with Eleanor and sing along to it.

Presents

I’ve bought Eleanor a personalised stocking this year which she can use every year. It’s going to be filled this year with practical teething and weaning bits that she’ll need in a few months time. I’m also going to do a Christmas Eve box next year for her with PJs, a film and a book. Also on December 1st she’ll get a Christmas jumper and book to read throughout the month.

Santa

For next year I’m going to buy a Christmas Santa plate which has a space for a mince pie, milk and a carrot for Rudolph. Each Christmas Eve we’ll get it out for Santa just before bedtime.

When Eleanor is older we’ll definitely write letters to Santa and I’m going to have him write her one back. We’ll also go visit him at a local grotto.

Decorations

train christmas decoration

Every year since I left home I’ve bought a new decoration for my tree. I don’t have any decorations that are the same, is that wrong? My tree is definitely more fun than fashionable. When Eleanor is old enough she’ll be the one picking out a new decoration. This year I bought a few more but this train is my favourite – and also it left glitter everywhere! You can see all my decorations on my Christmas tree decorating video.

What are your Christmas traditions?

I love a good blog redesign. I’m lucky to have a programmer for a husband so he’s created this brand new blog design for me. I spent ages mocking up designs of what I wanted it to look like. He then turned those sketches into fully working template for WordPress. I love it!

New website design

I liked my old design in that it was simple and clean but when I started my YouTube channel I felt like I needed a change. I wanted a new logo that would go across all my social channels and to have a more cohesive look. I’ve also renamed all my social channels to match my blog – you can find them at the top or down at the bottom.

New Logo

new logo design

The new logo took me ages to design. I wanted to keep the watercolour feel and my favourite colour but I wanted it to look more elegant. I kept fussing with the colours and he made quite a few logos before I finally picked the one I loved most. Having finalised the logo it really helped develop a colour scheme for the blog, which is reflected in the style guide.

Style Guide

I can be super organised, so to help Simon in the development I created a style guide. This included the colours, hex codes, the fonts and what H1-3, etc would look like. It also included a smaller logo design and how I wanted the social media icons to look. This is great as a reference for him when coding the site and for me to have some consistency in the design.

If you want to create your own style guide there’s a lot of inspiration on Pinterest.

My favourite bit

I love how the blog posts now look. It brings more attention to the imagery but also makes the content stand out too. But my real favourite bit is the logo – I’m easily pleased. Actually, if you ask my husband he’ll say the exact opposite. I’ve changed so many bits along the way and he’s worked ridiculously hard to make me the design I want. I am incredibly grateful and I’m sure we both hope I won’t get inspired for a new design any time soon!

My plan for working out after having a baby was always to put it off until after Christmas. I didn’t want to weigh myself and then eat lots of mince pies and get annoyed with myself. I really want to enjoy baby’s first Christmas and that means indulging in Christmas pudding, pigs in blankets and mulled wine.

New running trainers for parkrun

I don’t have much time to myself now so in the new year I’m really going to have to carve out some me time to fit in exercise. There are 4 things that I’m going to try and fit in here and there. I’m not going to go OTT with a plan as that will be really demotivating if I can’t do it. However I am setting myself a goal. I want to be able to do the New Forest 10km race in September 2017.

Running

Now I have a race to aim for I’m going to get on the couch to 5k bandwagon again and get working on it. I did the New Forest 10km in 2015 so it will be good to do it again. I did want to do the half marathon but I think that will be too much pressure with only 9 months to train for it – especially if I can only make it out for a run once a week.

Yoga

Yoga with Adrienne is my favourite exercise YouTube channel. I loved her 30 days of yoga series a couple of years back and I think this will be a good place to start getting back in shape. I’m not going to promise to do it every day, but while Eleanor sleeps in the morning maybe I can do this if we’ve had a good night. I hope the yoga will help with my lack of core!

Swimming

Eleanor goes to WaterBabies every week and she loves it. I don’t get much exercise but bouncing around in a circle for 30 minutes must do me some good. I did swimming every week in the latter part of my pregnancy and it really helped. If I can swim more in 2017 I definitely will.

Walking

There’s a local mums group that goes for a walk once a week and I haven’t managed to make it to one yet. After Christmas I plan to go to at least 2 of these a month. I live next to a large park and lots of fields so hopefully I can get outside with Eleanor in the sling and get counting those steps. I actually have a Garmin running watch with a step counter so maybe I should start wearing it as an incentive.

If I can complete the New Forest 10km in under 1 hour I will be really chuffed! I did it in about 1 hour 20 last time so shaving off 20 minutes might be a challenge. We were lapped by half marathon runners, it was actually quite embarrassing but it was the first time I’d run 10km. While training I’d only ever got to about an hour of running.

My Goal

Run the New Forest 10km in under one hour.

There, I’ve made myself accountable now by telling you all my goal. I hope I can shift some of this baby weight and fit back comfortably into my old clothes soon.

How are you getting back in shape after having a baby?

In July I was sent some Little Angels nappies to try out and obviously I couldn’t do anything with them as I was pregnant at the time.

Now Eleanor is 2 months old and we’ve been using the newborn nappies and the Dreamskin nappies for awhile now. We’ve been switching between these and Pampers. Price wise, I only ever buy Pampers on offer in Tesco and it’s still cheaper to buy Asda Little Angels.

ASDA little angels nappies

Little Angels Newborn nappies

At the moment Eleanor is still in size 1’s and the nappies come with a built in size guide on the straps so I know when to change to the next size. The material is very soft and flexible. I find they have more material on the side straps compared to Pampers, so I feel like they are more secure from explosions. They also have an elasticated back which I feel holds more in.

We have had a few poop explosions over the last month but they’ve all happened in the Pampers nappies – I don’t know if that’s just a coincidence though. With the help of the wetness indicator I always change her nappy as soon as possible.

I love the price of these, especially when Eleanor decides to pee or poop halfway through changing her. Sometimes we’ve been through 3 nappies during one change!

Newborn with Dreamskin technology

We used the Dreamskin nappies when Eleanor was born as they are enriched with a special polymer to protect her bum. It also helps to regulate skin temperature and keep moisture in. Eleanor doesn’t have sensitive skin so we switched to the newborn nappies when these ran out. If your baby needs a more gentle nappy, these might be worth trying.

As you can see in my little changing basket, I use Waterwipes at the moment. I want to use them while Eleanor is still very young, but I do plan on changing to cheaper wipes when she’s a little older. I just love how natural they are when her skin is so delicate.

I’ll be picking up the ASDA swimming nappies soon when Eleanor starts Water Babies. I’ve heard good things about those nappies.

Disclaimer: I was kindly sent these nappies free of charge to try out but all thoughts and opinions here are my own.
